Series X3 - NSW
Round 3
Good day of racing at Round 3 of Series X3 - NSW for the Jeremey Hodges memorial Cup at Sydney Motorsport. Headed out on Friday night for some testing. Matthew was able to find a lot of gains and improvements throughout the night. Different format for Round 3 with it being 2x 1 hour enduros instead of the normal 3 sprint races. Matthew enjoyed the different format and the racing provided
Qualifying:
Matthews qualifying session was very positive making gains and improving times. Matthew only did 5 laps due to cutting it close on weight. Defiently more in it but P11 was a positive start.
Race 1:
Race 1 was a fairly hectic race. Was able to hold P11 after lap one and for the following laps. A safety car came out at about 12 minutes into ther race. Thankfully being a bit further back in the field, Matthew was one of two cars to pit as it hit the 15 minute mark and pit a lap before everyone else jumping Matthew up into P2 for the restart. Restart was full on with people making moves. Matthew held in the top 7 for a few laps but unfortunately was still lacking some pace and motor. Ended the first 1 hour race in P9.
Race 2:
Race 2 took place under the flood lights of Sydney Motorsport Park. Was defiently a cool experience for Matthew. Matt started out of P9, made it to P8 in lap 1, battled for a few laps before the rain started. Matt made his pit stop about 20 minutes into the race. He showed great pace in the being a lot closer to the front runners. Through the pit stops and the rain, Matt was able to make it up to P6 and finish there. Defiently a strong result being only one of a few doing both enduros solo and big gains made
Overall a very good day/night for Matthew. Big thanks to Matt's sponsors: 313 Automotive and Medisleep. Without these guys non of this would be possible. Big thanks to everyone at the X3 NSW club and Motor Race Australia - MRA for what was a very good meeting, and to Henry and Kurtis for spinning spanners all day. Round 4 is back at SMP in under a month on June 14th for the next sprint round.
