Series X3 - NSW
Round 2
Very positive weekend for Matthew down at Goulburn for Round 2 of the NSW excel series - Series X3 NSW.
Going into the weekend expectations weren't to high with the aim to finish with a straight car and no smashed windscreen again.
Matthew spent Friday testing and learning One Raceway making gains all day.
Matthew went into qualifying on Saturday morning and was able to put it P10 on the grid. This was a very good result considering the lack of running Matthew has had since the last round when he spent most his time rebuilding the car, from taking the engine out and putting it back in, to new parts like bonnet, bumper, dash and more.
Race 1:
Race 1 was a very positive race for Matt. Limited experience with standing starts, he was able to walk it off the line nicely up and move up to P8 by turn 2. Matt held P8 for a few laps but just didn't quite have the speed and straight-line speed to keep it falling back to P11. Overall was a very positive race
Race 2:
Unfortunately Matt didn't quite get the start right and fell back a few spots into turn 2. Matt had quite a bit of pace, was able to avoid some incidents and made it back to P11 and could have potentially been higher. Crossed the line P11 but after penalties moved to P10.
Race 3:
Matt was able to get it off the line nicely and by the end of lap 1 move up to P7. He held P7 for a few laps but didn't quite have the speed of the cars around and a few mistakes hurt. Crossed the line P10 which was still a very good result.
Overall it was a very strong weekend for Matt. Lots learnt and gained with still some tings to improve with things like car setup and getting a better understanding of what's best. All these things come with experience which will be gained before Round 3. A massive thanks to Matts sponsors: Medisleep and 313 Automotive. Without these guys this wouldn't be possible. A big thanks to both Series X3 NSW and Motor Race Australia - MRA, for what was a very well run meeting. Round 3 is on May 17th back at Sydney Motorsport Park for the Jeremy Hodges Memorial Cup. Super excited for the round with two 1 hour enduro races, one of which under lights and will be streamed live and free on Blendline TV.
See you then!
